Thursday (4) marks 100 days to go until the European Throwing Cup returns to Nicosia, Cyprus on 14-15 March 2026.
The annual event attracts some the continent’s leading senior, U23 and U20 athletes from the throws’ disciplines. It provides a glimpse into how winter training has fared and lays down a marker for the summer season ahead.
Last year was the first of three years of hosting in the Cypriot capital and there were early season world leads by Sweden’s Vaness Kamga (63.25m, women’s discus), Finland’s Silja Kosonen (77.07m, women’s hammer) and Serbia’s Adrian Vilagos (66.88m, women’s javelin).
Previous winners at the European Throwing Cup include Poland’s three-time Olympic champion and world recorder holder Anita Włodarczyk (2008-2009), Estonia’s Olympic and world discus gold medallist Gerd Kanter (2003-2005, 2007-2010) and current world shot put champion Jessica Schilder (2024).
The event has also been notorious for some monstrous javelin throwing, including Johannes Vetter’s mark of 92.70m in Leiria 2018 and Poland’s Maria Andrejczyk launching her spear 71.40m to win in Split 2021.
