Adriana Vilagos improved her Serbian record and world lead in the javelin to 67.22m in Split on Saturday (26).
The double European silver medallist, who was crowned 2024 women’s Rising Star at the Golden Tracks award ceremony last October, improved her previous mark of 66.88m which was set last month at the European Throwing Cup in Nicosia.
“I am so happy with this result! The preparations in Antalya were very successful. I felt great and I knew I could throw far but a throw like this at the very beginning of the season gives me extra momentum,” said Vilagos.
Having won the European U20 title in 2023, Vilagos has expressed her intentions to compete at the European Athletics U23 Championships in Bergen this July on the road to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September.
The 21-year-old also moves to third on the European U23 all-time list which is headed by 2016 Olympic champion Sara Kolak who threw 68.43m in Lausanne in 2017.
