Mondo Duplantis broke the men’s pole vault world record for the 11th time at the All Star Perche in Clermont-Ferrand with a sensational first time clearance at 6.27m on Friday (28).
On the day he released his debut song ‘Bop’, Mondo Duplantis delivered yet another chart-topping performance in the World Indoor Tour Silver meeting in France.
Returning to one of many scenes of his world record breaking leaps – then 6.22m two years ago - he carries a level of expectation in every competition. And once he had the event won with a flawless card through to 6.07m, there was only one place the bar was going.
Incredibly, the Swedish superstar sailed over first time, taking the record ever higher, sending the crowd of pole vault enthusiasts into raptures.
Greek record for Karalis
It was also a night to remember for Olympic bronze medallist Emmanouil Karalis who continued his fine form indoors with a national record clearance of 6.02m, adding 1cm to the national record he set at last week’s Greek Indoor Championships.
With Mondo absent, he will surely start as favourite at the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships on 6-9 March.
European champion Angelica Moser of Switzerland won the women’s competition with a season’s best 4.76m ahead of European U23 champion Marie-Julie Bonnin of France (4.70m) and Italy’s Roberta Bruni with her best ever clearance indoors (4.70m).
