Pia Skrzyszowska, Ivana Španović, Lovisa Lindh, Federica Curriazzi, Nick Smidt, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, Attila Molnár and Ján Volko have been elected to the European Athletics Athletes’ Committee for the 2026-2030 term following a strong turnout in the election held during the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

The eight athletes, four women and four men, will serve as representatives on the Athletes’ Committee for the next four years, bringing a wealth of experience from across European athletics.

Skrzyszowska, the Polish sprint hurdles star, topped the women’s vote, with Serbia’s multiple major championship medallist Španović finishing second. Sweden’s Lovisa Lindh and Italy’s Federica Curriazzi completed the four elected women’s positions.

In the men’s vote, Dutch 400m hurdler Smidt finished first, followed by British sprinter and relay specialist Mitchell-Blake. Hungary’s Attila Molnár and Slovakia’s Ján Volko took the remaining two elected positions.

The eight representatives bring experience from some of the sport’s most competitive disciplines, including sprinting, hurdles, middle-distance running and horizontal jumps, as well as extensive experience of competing at European and global championships.

The election also highlighted the level of engagement among Europe’s athletes.

Of the 1,548 accredited athletes, 1,417 cast valid votes, giving a participation rate of 91.54%. More than nine out of every 10 eligible athletes therefore took part in choosing their representatives.

The high turnout underlines the importance athletes place on having a direct voice in the development of their sport and in the decisions that will shape its future.

European Athletics has worked to make the election process more visible and accessible, allowing athletes competing at the Birmingham Championships to play an active part in choosing their representatives.

The eight elected athletes will now serve a four-year term on the Athletes’ Committee, representing the views and interests of athletes and helping to strengthen the link between athletes and European Athletics.

They were elected from a field of 14 candidates, with athletes from across Europe putting themselves forward for the eight available positions.

European Athletics congratulates all of the candidates who stood for election and thanks the athletes who took part, together with everyone involved in organising and delivering the process.

The 91.54% participation rate provides a strong starting point for the new committee as it begins its four-year mandate and reflects the willingness of athletes across Europe to have an active role in shaping the future of athletics.
