Spain’s Mohamed Attaoui concluded the programme at the Erfurt Indoor 2026, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger meeting, with a solo victory in the men’s 800m.

Fresh from breaking the European indoor 1000m record last Friday night with a 2:14.52 clocking in Madrid, Attaoui arrived with the purpose of attacking the Spanish indoor 800m record of 1:44.65 set by Elvin Josue Canales in Luxembourg last year.

Attaoui was on course to revise the national record through the 600m checkpoint in 1:17.96 but the European silver medallist faded off the requisite pace on the last lap, crossing the finish-line in 1:45.76.

Attaoui still won by a clear margin ahead of Italy’s 1500m specialist Federico Riva (1:46.61) and France's Corentin Le Clezio (1:46.75) although the second fastest time of the evening came courtesy of Germany’s Malik Skupin-Alfa who won the 'B' race in 1:46.19.

7.17 for Schwartz in the 60m

Philina Schwartz continued her ascendency through the ranks of German sprinting with a statement victory in the women’s 60m, extending her unbeaten streak to nine races in 2026.

After qualifying fastest for the final with 7.21, the 19-year-old powered away from her rivals for a clear victory in a lifetime best of 7.17, the fastest time by a German so far in 2026, ahead of Iran’s Farzaneh Fasihi in 7.26.

Kevin Kranz won a much closer men’s 60m final in 6.61. The 2021 European indoor silver medallist held off a late charge from Nigeria’s Fola Olaoye (6.63) and Japan’s Kaito Kuraki (6.64) to provide the first part of a German double in the short sprints.

Marlene Meier pipped 2023 European U20 100m hurdles champion Rosina Schneider in a competitive 60m hurdles final, 7.97 to 7.99.

There was an even closer winning margin in the men’s 400m. Switzerland’s Lionel Spitz, who led as they broke from lanes, narrowly held off a late charge from Thorben Finke. Both athletes were timed at 46.57 with just 0.002 separating the first and second placers.

In the only field event of the programme, Torben Blech cleared 5.56m to win on countback from Czechia’s Filip Bartonek. Blech had one unsuccessful attempt at 5.71m before retiring from the competition.
