Audrey Werro said it was a "really good award for all the hard work” as she was named the women’s Rising Star at the Golden Tracks awards in Batumi, Georgia on Saturday (25).

The Swiss athlete attended the glittering ceremony and oas she accepted the award on stage, she said: “I’m really proud to be the second Swiss to win this award. It’s a really good reward for all the hard work we are doing during the year.

Clutching the trophy, she added: “I already have a place for this award, it is going to go next to the Diamond for the Diamond League.”

Previous winners of the prestigious award include Olympic gold medallists Femke Bol, Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Nafissatou Thiam.

Superb season

Werro enjoyed a superb season in the women’s 800m. The 21-year-old won gold in the Bergen 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships, triumphed at the Diamond League final, as well as reaching the finals at the World Athletics Championships (6th), World Indoor Championships (4th) and Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships (6th).

She also set new Swiss records indoors (1:59.81) and outdoors (1:55.91) in the course of the year.

An intriguing season awaits the Swiss athlete with Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson seeking to defend her European title in front of her British fans at Birmingham 2026, world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell and world 400m hurdles champion Femke Bol stepping up and all likely to be among Werro’s rivals in the year ahead.
