In her first race since winning two medals at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, multiple European champion Nadia Battocletti eased to victory over 10km on home soil at the Corsa dei Castelli in Trieste on Sunday (19).
Battocletti clocked a solo 32:52 for victory by over one minute. The Italian will now turn her focus away from the track and roads and back to cross country as the 25-year-old confirmed last week that she is planning to defend her senior women’s title at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Lagoa, Portugal on 14 December.
“I ran well in my first outing since the start of my winter training where I've only done a few training sessions so far. Everything starts again in Trieste and I'm happy with the result, achieved with ease and happiness. It was a beautiful day here; I had fun,” said Battocletti, who won gold at the inaugural European Running Championships in Brussels-Leuven over the same distance in April.
Ahead of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships, Battocletti is due to race in two World Athletics World Cross Country Tour Gold events: Atapuerca on 23 November and Alcobendas on 30 November.
Battocletti made history at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Antalya last year, becoming the first woman in event history to win individual gold medals in the U20, U23 and senior race.
South Africa’s Maxime Chaumeton won the men’s 10km in Trieste in 27:50.
