Marie-Julie Bonnin set a world lead of 4.66m in winning the women’s competition at the Starperche pole vault meeting in Bordeaux, France, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze event, on Saturday (18) evening.

The 2023 European U23 gold medallist from France, cleared the bar at the first attempt before failing with three attempts to set a new national record of 4.76m, a mark six centimetres above her lifetime best.

Bonnin won by one clear height from Italy's Olympic and European finalist Roberta Bruni who cleared 4.56m on her first attempt before bowing out at 4.66m.

Baptiste Thierry won the men's competition on countback from China's Li Chenyang at 5.64m. A second-time clearance at this height proved the difference for the Frenchman who ensured a domestic double in Bordeaux.
