It was a day David Storl will never forget.
During the night, his partner Marie Richter gave birth to a son, Jaro Phil, and then on Sunday evening, if he wasn’t happy enough, Storl moved to the top of the shot put world rankings once more.
“An incredibly great feeling! I do not find the right words,” said Storl, whose son weighed in at 8lbs, 6oz, at the St. Elisabeth Hospital in Leipzig.
By the early evening he had made the 50 minute journey to Rochlitz to compete in the special shot put meeting, where he produced a brilliant 21.37m.
And now in less than a month’s time, Storl will have even greater incentive to bring home gold as he defends his title at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
