  • Caudery vaults a world lead of 4.92m in Toulouse

Great Britain’s Molly Caudery moved to seventh on the world all-time list with a world lead and British record of 4.92m at the Toulouse Capitole Perche, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting, on Saturday (22) evening.

Caudery had already won the competition courtesy of a first-time clearance at 4.61m and the world indoor champion continued to raise the bar higher and higher despite the drizzly conditions, clearing 4.73m on her second attempt and then 4.80m on her first attempt.

The Briton then set the bar at the rarefied height of 4.92m - which equates to a lifetime best by six centimetres - and the 24-year-old went clear at this landmark height on her second attempt before one attempt at 5.00m.

Not only did her successful 4.92m clearance add six centimetres to Caudery’s own world lead and lifetime best, it also added two centimetres to the British record held by Tokyo Olympic Games bronze medallist Holly Bradshaw, who was due to compete in Toulouse but was a non-starter.

France's European U23 champion Marie-Julie Bonnin finished second with 4.51m but there was a home victory in the men’s pole vault with Thibaut Collet clearing a meeting record of 5.82m to defeat compatriot Anthony Ammirati with 5.72m.

Former world record-holder and 2012 Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie, who is still hoping to qualify for his home Olympics in Paris and only has a week left to try and secure the qualifying standard of 5.82m, no-heighted at 5.60m.
