Auriol Dongmo, the Belgrade 2022 World indoor champion, threw 18.59m to take the win in the women's shot put, and meeting record, at Meeting Moniz Pereira, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger meeting, on Sunday (25).
The Portuguese thrower measured 18.09m in the first round, before throwing her best in the second, but then failed to measure a valid throw for the following four rounds.
Despite her struggles, she won comfortably with the next competitor being Portuguese teammate Jessica Inchude with 17.80m.
Dongmo broke her leg in 2024, but last year still managed to fight back to win bronze at the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships.
Her throw puts her second in Europe this year, 19cm behind Germany’s Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye, and third in the world.
While Dongmo holds two indoor European titles, she is yet to win an outdoor European title, but with Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships in August, her time could finally come.
Although her countrywoman Inchude will also be searching for a spot on the podium in Birmingham. Her personal best set last year at the European Throwing Cup of 19.21m would be a real challenge to the title.
Great Britain’s Serena Vincent took third with a throw of 17.16m in the fifth round, which would rank her 10th in Europe currently.
De Sousa bounds out to 6.84m long jump
In the women’s long jump, Portugal's Agate de Sousa took a comfortable win, and equalled her 2025 season’s best, with an incredible 6.84m.

That jump puts her second in the world currently, with Italy’s Larissa Iapichino toping the world list with 6.93m.
Last year Sousa won the World University Games and placed sixth at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, as well as a bronze medal at the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships – so she will be keen to get back on the international podium.
In the men's loing jump, Gerson Baldé won with an impressive 8.05m.
In the men's 400m, Portugal’s Omar Elkhatib, who is a key part of Portugal's 4x400m team, opened up his season with 47.96 for a third place finish.
He was beaten to the line by Italy’s Vanni Picco Akwannor who ran 47.53, while Spain’s Jorge Garcia Rodriguez ran 47.73 in a different heat to take second.
