Fresh off his short track heptathlon world record in March, Simon Ehammer has his eyes set on completing his set of medals from the European Athletics Championships.
In 2022 he won his first medal, a silver medal in the decathlon, but in 2024 Ehammer competed in the long jump, impressively earning bronze.
Now, at the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships, he is determined to complete the colours with an ever-precious gold.
"Speechless"
“I am still speechless [to have won world indoor gold], because when I watched the video from all the disciplines and the result, it's still unbelievable," he told European Athletics.
“It gives me so much joy, and it's so big, I'm unbelievably happy and proud of myself. It gives me a lot of energy for the outdoor season.
“All the medals I've won, have a special place in my heart, so it's always special to look back and to see where I began or where I am now.
“It gives me some energy and also some motivation to win a gold medal again or maybe another colour, but for sure, the goal is to stay on top.”
He competed in his first decathlonof the year in Brescia, Italy in April scoring 8361 points just shy of 200 points off his PB.
Ehammer is also set to face his biggest competition for gold in Birmingham, Leo Neugebauer the world champion, at the Hypomeeting Gotzis 30-31 May.

Excited for UK return
But the Swiss star, is also excited to come back to Great Britain after making fond memories competing there, including winning his first world indoor title in Glasgow in 2024.
“I'm very excited [for Europeans] because I competed at the Diamond League meeting in London, it was an amazing atmosphere, amazing crowd,” he said.
“I competed at the World Indoors in Glasgow, also the crowd was amazing, the competition was great.
“So I'm very happy to go back to the UK and to enjoy the competition and the amazing crowd this summer.”
