Hosts Italy have announced a full-sized team of 116 athletes for the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships from 7-12 June, the biggest ever Italian team for a European Athletics Championships.

Their team is headlined by their three individual gold medallists from Munich 2022: Lamont Marcell Jacobs in the 100m, Gianmarco Tamberi in the high jump and 10,000m gold medallist Yemaneberhan Crippa who has also entered the half marathon.

All four medallists from the recent World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow have been named on the team: Leonardo Fabbri (shot put), Mattia Furlani (long jump), Lorenzo Simonelli (110m hurdles) and Zaynab Dosso (60m).

And aside from Jacobs and Tamberi, the Italian team is fortified by fellow Olympic champion Antonella Palmisano who goes for gold in the women's 20km race walk, the first medal event of the championships on the Friday evening.

Filippo Tortu, Eseosa Desalu and Lorenzo Patta - who joined forces with Jacobs to win a shock 4x100m title at the Tokyo Olympic Games - have also been included in the relay pool for Roma 2024.

In total, Italy won 11 medals at the 2022 European Athletics Championships including three gold medals, their best ever showing at any edition of the European Athletics Championships since Split 1990.
