The 2013 European Athletics Awards Night in Tallinn, Estonia, will be broadcast live on national television and streamed live on Saturday 12 October.

Estonian Television (ETV) will have an hour-long programme from 19:10 local time that will be made available to European Broadcasting Union Members and also streamed live at http://otse.err.ee/etv/.

For the first time, European Athletics will not announce the winners until the evening of the Awards Night on Saturday 12 October.

All four winners of the men's and women's European Athlete of the Year and Rising Star awards will be present in Tallinn to collect their prizes.

More than 16,000 fans voted on the European Athlete of the Year and Rising Star Awards at facebook.com/EuropeanAthletics, while 163 members of the Association Internationale de la Presse Sportive (AIPS) from 54 countries also voted through www.aipsmedia.com.

The winning athletes were decided by counting votes from the fans, media, European Athletics Member Federations as well as an expert European Athletics panel, with the results from each group of voters counting for one quarter of the athlete's final score.

The initial nomination lists for both the European Athlete of the Year and Rising Star Awards were compiled by selecting the top European athlete in different athletics disciplines based on performances at the Moscow 2013 IAAF World Championships, Göteborg 2013 European Athletics Indoor Championships, Gateshead 2013 European Athletics Team Championships, Tampere 2013 European Athletics U23 Championships, Rieti 2013 European Athletics Junior Championships, other European Athletics and IAAF events, and the series of Diamond League and European Athletics meetings.

European Athletics President Hansjörg Wirz said, 'It was another exciting and busy year for the sport in Europe.

'To be nominated for the best athlete in Europe is a huge honour and one that is greatly valued by the athletes.

'However, I must stress that European Athletics has always held a very strong line against doping and any athlete who has previously served a two-year doping ban was omitted from the list of nominations.'

The Awards Night will also feature the European Athletics Women's Leadership Awards, which celebrate women whose work and accomplishments, other than in competition, serve as examples of leadership and other values of the sport of athletics.

The European Athletics Future Women Leaders Scholarships are given at the same time as the Women’s Leadership Awards to help outstanding young women to develop as leaders in our sport.

The European Athletics Coaching Awards, meanwhile, will recognise the invaluable contributions made by coaches at all levels to the sport of athletics.
