European medallists Spain’s Fernando Carro and Adel Mechaal, both European medallists on the track, have both confirmed that they will make their marathon debut in Valencia on 7 December.
Carro, the 2018 European 3000m steeplechase silver medallist and Mechaal, the 2017 European indoor 3000m have been named as leading domestic entrants for the World Athletics Platinum Label event alongside Tariku Novales who set the Spanish national record of 2:05:48 at the 2023 Valencia Marathon.

The women’s entry includes three athletes who performed well at April’s inaugural European Running Championships in Brussels-Leuven. Marathon silver medallist Majida Maayouf leads the home challenge alongside Ester Navarrete, who was seventh in the marathon at Brussels-Leuven and Meritxell Soler, fourth in the half marathon at the same event.
Naverrete and Soler will also competed in the Valencia Half Marathon on 26 October in the build up to December’s race.
