  • European U23 3000m steeplechase champion Megier wins at Polish Cross Country Championships

One of Poland’s brightest distance-running prospects, Maciej Megier, delivered a commanding performance at the Polish Cross Country Championships in Lubin on Saturday (22).

Competing in the U23 men’s 6km race, Megier was in a league of his own. The 3000m steeplechase gold medallist from the Bergen 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships controlled the pace from the outset and broke away decisively on the final circuits.

His winning margin of more than 20 seconds underlined both his strength over the undulating Lubin course and his growing maturity as a championship performer.

With the European Cross Country Championships in Portugal now just three weeks away, Megier’s form suggests he could arrive in Lagoa 2025 as Poland’s leading contender—and one of the dark horses in a highly competitive men’s U23 field.

Rak shows turn of pace in short course race

In the senior races, Olimpia Breza powered to victory in the women’s 8km, while Marcin Biskup claimed the men’s 8km national title.

Another standout performance came from U23 athlete Filip Rak, who won the combined senior/U23 men’s 2km race. Rak, the 1500m bronze medallist at Bergen 2025, once again demonstrated his trademark speed and tactical sharpness over the short cross-country distance.

Saturday’s results will now form the basis for Poland’s final team selection for Lagoa 2025. Poland has not won a medal at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships since Weronika Pyzik took bronze in the women’s U23 race in Tilburg 2018.
