Farah, the 2012 European Athlete of the Year, is bidding to retain his 5000m title and win the 10,000m gold at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow which start on Saturday week.
His plan is then to move onto the roads, with his full marathon debut in London in April.
But on September 15 he will run the half-marathon between Newcastle and South Shields against two of the greatest in history.
Gebrselassie, 40, is a double Olympic 10,000m champion and former marathon world record-holder while his successor Bekele, 31, a triple Olympic gold medallist and 11-times World Cross Country champion, will be making his debut over the 13.1 miles.
Farah, 30, who retained his 5000m crown at last year's European Athletics Championships in Helsinki and then won the 5000m and 10,000m Olympic double in London, cannot wait to take on the Ethiopians.
He said on Tuesday: 'I competed in the mile and two mile events on Great North Run weekend in past years and am delighted to finally make my debut in the main event.
'It is always one of the world’s top half marathon races and this year promises to be a great race against Haile and Kenenisa.
'I remember watching Haile win the 2000 Olympic Games in a sprint finish in Sydney when I was just 17 years old.
'I have experience on the roads but this will be only my third half marathon race. I won in New York in 20011 and New Orleans earlier this year and hope to make it a third win in the North East.'
Brendan Foster, the 1974 European 5000m champion and founder of this event seven years later, said: 'No one could ask for a better ‘dream team’ to participate in their event and we are delighted they will feature in what has the makings of the greatest head to head in half marathon history
'Haile may now be a veteran but he remains an accomplished performer and we should remember he won the Bupa Great North Run three years ago in a very impressive time of 59:33.'
