European Athletics is very saddened to hear of the death of former Vice President Rudolf Dušek from Czechia who died on Thursday (10) at the age of 94.
Dušek served on the European Athletics Council for four successive terms between 1975 and 1991 - a period which saw significant modernisation and professionalisation to the sport - and was the sole Vice President of European Athletics between 1987 and 1991.
He was bestowed with the title of Honorary Council Member after he left office in 1991.
Dušek was also a highly respected and knowledgeable official and was appointed as a technical delegate at multiple editions of the European Athletics Championships and World Athletics Championships.
Among his many other influential roles, Dušek was the President of Czechoslovak Athletics between 1973-77 and he also played a pivotal role at the Prague 1978 European Athletics Championships, serving as chairman of the Local Organising Committee.
