Following the success of the European Athletics Championships in Barcelona last summer, indoor competition now takes centre stage with the 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships, which will be staged in Paris from 4 to 6 March.
Around 700 athletes from nearly 50 different countries are expected to compete in the Palais Omnisport Paris-Bercy and the television coverage proposed by France Télévisions means that if you haven’t been lucky enough to get a ticket then you’ll be able to follow the action from in front of the TV screen.
France Télévisions will produce an international signal incorporating 27 cameras and 12 slow motion recorders for the various overseas television stations broadcasting this event.
During the three days of competition, France Télévisions will also provide nearly 20 hours of live footage on France 2, France 3 and France ”, with the latter joining the other stations from the France Télévisions group for the first time to broadcast an international sports event.
The broadcast schedule for France is given below:
Friday 4 March: 1000 - 1300 then 14.50 - 19.00 hrs on France ”.
Saturday 5 March: 0900 -1230 on France ”, then 1540 - 18.00 on France 2.
Sunday 6 March: 0930 - 11.30 on France ”, then 1520 - 17.00 on France 3; not to mention the final live relays on the France 2 programme Stade 2.
The various live broadcasts will be accompanied by wide coverage of the event in the various televised news bulletins and sports programmes associated with France Télévisions, and especially in the Stade 2 programme on France 2, the two daily editions of Tout le Sport on France 3 and in the Couleurs Sport programme on France ”.
France Télévisions will also provide coverage of the 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships 2011 on its website sport.francetv.fr, which will also include results, other information, behind-the-scenes footage, reports and analysis.
Eurovision will give the opportunity to the 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Paris to be shown in more than 40 countries for around 150 hours.
As a member of the European Broadcast Union, France Télévisions has accepted to act as Host Broadcaster for the Championships.
Eurovision, the premier distributor of sports and news content for the world’s top broadcast and media platforms, will distribute live coverage of the Championships on its global satellite and fibre network. Eurovision carries over 20,000 hours of premium live sports events every year, including the Olympic Games, UEFA Champions League and Europa League football, and Formula One motor racing.
Many European channels will also be making the trip to Paris Bercy. Those who have already confirmed include the pan-European broadcaster Eurosport (in three languages, German, English and French), TRT for Türkiye, DR for Denmark, RTVS for Slovenia, NOS for Holland, ERT for Greece, RTP for Portugal, SVT for Sweden, YLE for Finland, TVR for Romania, ERR for Estonia, RTE for Ireland, VRT and RTBF for Belgium and the BBC for the United Kingdom.
Last summer, over 25 million French viewers watched the 2010 European Athletics Championships on France Télévisions for at least 5 minutes.
