Jeff Erius blazed to men’s 100m gold for France at the Bergen 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships on Friday (18).
Bergen 2025 is being live streamed on the European Athletics website courtesy of Eurovision Sport.
The 2021 European U20 silver medallist upgraded with an assured run, seeing off the close attentions of Spain’s Abel Jordán and Dutch sprinter Nsikak Ekpo, to win in 10.28 (-2.0m/s).
In a closely matched contest, Erius, Jordan and Ekpo each got away from the blocks well. Erius just had the edge by midway and held on to the finish with Ekpo, a member of the silver medal-winning Dutch 4x100m team silver at the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships, celebrating silver with 10.30.
Jordan, fourth over 60m at the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships, faded slightly in the closing strides for bronze in 10.31.
Manasová opens Czech account at Bergen 2025
Karolina Manasová took Czechia’s first gold of Bergen 2025. The European indoor finalist looked the in-form athlete through the rounds, and she exploded from the gun into an early lead from lane six.
Britain’s Nia Wedderburn-Goodison, who led the European U23 list coming into the championships, was also away well from lane three. She was in close contention throughout, but Manasová never faltered, holding her form through to the finish to claim her first international title in 11.30 (-1.3m/s).
Wedderburn-Goodison was 0.08 adrift to add European U23 silver to European U18 gold from Jerusalem 2022.
Greece’s Polyniki Emmanouilidou was third in 11.44, adding a second European U23 bronze to her collection to the one she collected over 200m at Espoo 2023.
