Great Britain have named a strong team for the European Athletics U18 Championships in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia on 18-21 July.

Heading the line up is Phoebe Gill who tops this year’s European U18 lists with a stunning run of 1:57.86 in Belfast in May.

She will start as favourite in the women’s 800m, a title won by fellow British runner and two-times European Athletics Championships gold medallist Keely Hodgkinson in 2018 Gyor.

Gill will also compete in the medley relay. The team also includes European leaders Jake Odey-Jordan in the men’s 200m and Iwan Thomas in the men’s 2000m steeplechase.

"A great learning experience"

Great Britain Team Leader Darren Ritchie said, “Congratulations to the athletes and their support networks on earning selection for the Championships. This competition is an important step in this early part of the pathway, so this will be a great learning experience for all the athletes selected.

“I wish them all the best in their preparations, and I look forward to seeing them perform on the track and in the field next month.”
