Emelia Gorecka has been one of the most successful athletes in the recent editions of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships and she has proved that she is hungry for more glory.
Evidence of that came on Saturday afternoon when she won the Liverpool Cross Challenge for the third year in row.
Next step Belgrade, where Gorecka, who is only 19, will be chasing her seventh medal at the championships.
That is pretty impressive considering she does not turn 20 until the end of January.
But in the last three years the British athlete has produced a series of brilliant performances at the junior event to make it onto the podium.
She has the full set of medals from the individual event: bronze in Albufeira in 2010 became gold in Velenje in 2011 before she won silver in Budapest in 2012.
She also has three team golds from 2010, 2011 and 2012.
And it is not only the tricky terrain of mud and snow where she can adapt in winning fashion.
In the summer, Gorecka took gold in the 3000m at the European Athletics Junior Championships in Rieti when she won in 9:12:53.
Now, though, it is all about those far-from-flat conditions underfoot as she chases more success in Belgrade on December 8.
Gorecka took control on the second lap of the 4.4km race in Liverpool to win in 14:27 as she beat Georgia Taylor-Brown in 12:39 with Lydia Turner third in 12:51.
Speaking to British Athletics.org.uk, Gorecka looked ahead to Belgrade and said, 'I know in two weeks it’s going to be a really quick race so I thought I wanted to surge mid-race and I felt really good.
“Every race and every training session has been geared towards Belgrade.
'I spent the first half of the race settling in and warming up a bit and then once I got out onto the second lap I legged it and just focussed on getting a good leg turnover.'
The event was part of the British Athletics Cross Challenge Series and Andy Vernon won the men’s 9.8km race in 28:47.
“The Europeans isn’t going to be easy so I wanted to emulate that and push myself hard,” he said.
Gemma Steel, the individual bronze medallist from the 2011 SPAR European Cross County Championships in Velenje – where she also won gold in the team event - triumphed in the women’s 8.1km race in Liverpool in 26:36.
“As my first cross country race of the season I was a bit tentative getting out there but it wasn’t too different to road running today so it suited me really well,” she declared.
Twelve seconds behind her was Charlotte Purdue, who won the junior race at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in 2010 when Gorecka came third.
Second in Liverpool also meant first for Purdue because the under-23 event was combined within the senior race.
