Six Paris Olympics relay medallists and 2023 European indoor long jump gold medallist Jazmin Sawyers are included in the Great Britain team named on Thursday (12) for the European Athletics Team Championships 1st Division in Madrid on 27-29 June.
Toby Harries (men’s 4x400m bronze), Sam Reardon (men’s 4x400m bronze, mixed 4x400m bronze), Lina Nielsen (women’s 4x400m bronze) and Desiree Henry, Bianca Williams, and Imani-Lara Lansiquot (all women’s 4x100m silver) are named in a 42-strong team.
After missing out on 2024 through an Achilles rupture, Sawyers has made a successful comeback to competition this season and Madrid 2025 will represent her first appearance in a British vest since the Budapest 2023 World Athletics Championships.
Great Britain has a rich history in this competition. They finished third in the Silesia 2021 and will be seeking another podium push this time round.
"Highly competitive environment"
Performance Director at UK Athletics, Paula Dunn, said: "The European Team Championships provide an excellent opportunity for our athletes to gain valuable championship experience in a highly competitive environment.
"With 42 athletes representing the GB&NI team, including several senior debutants and established international performers, this event plays a crucial role in their development and season plans.
"Competing in Madrid against Europe's best will be a key milestone for many as we look ahead to the World Championships later in the year. I am confident that this team will rise to the challenge and look forward to supporting the squad in Spain."
