French star Jimmy Gressier will attack the world one-hour record at the Brussels Diamond League Final on 4 September; it has been announced by organisers.

The reigning world 10,000m champion and European half marathon champion will target the mark of 21,330m, set by Great Britain’s Mo Farah at the same meeting in 2020, as part of the extended programme for this year’s two-day Diamond League Final at the King Baudouin Stadium.

Belgium’s world 5000m silver medallist Isaac Kimeli will also take aim at history in Brussels, with the European finalist hoping to improve the long-standing Belgian 5000m record of 12:49.71, which has been held by Mohammed Mourhit since 2000.

The Allianz Memorial Van Damme, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026, will once again stage the Wanda Diamond League Final across Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September.

The season finale will bring together the world’s best athletes, with finals in all 32 Diamond League disciplines contested across the two days.

Athletes qualify for the final through the 14-meeting Diamond League circuit, which begins next week in Shanghai. Other European stars already confirmed for Brussels are Olympic and world pole vault champion Armand Duplantis and world high jump record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
