As the most popular cheese in Switzerland and well represented around the world, Le Gruyère AOP is proud to welcome elite athletes to the Zurich 2014 European Athletics Championships.
This event is one of the major peaks of Le Gruyère AOP’s commitment towards the sport which places the human being at the centre. Le Gruyère AOP accompanies athletics all year long, with strong presence at the Lausanne Athlétissima and Zurich Weltklasse meetings, as well as with the programme for future stars, Le Mille Gruyère.
The European Athletics Championships is the best opportunity to support these budding athletes and, who knows, allow them to achieve new goals.
Indeed, the runners with the best results from the 2013 and 2014 Swiss regional contests will be able to participate in the Le Mille Gruyère Fun Run. So, some 230 youths accompanied by their trainers will run a quarter distance of the marathon (10km) just after the men’s race, tomorrow on 17 August 2014.
It’s thanks to Le Gruyère AOP and the organisers that these young runners will have the opportunity to live a unique and unforgettable experience.
In order to support this important event in the best possible way, Le Gruyère AOP intensified its advertising presence with poster campaigns, tram clothing, radio/TV sponsoring and “contest on pack”. Furthermore, Le Gruyère AOP is present at the Letzigrund Stadium as well as the Sechseläutenplatz during the City Festival.
About 4 wheels of Le Gruyère AOP have so far been devoured every day since the start of the competition. Each wheel of cheese equates to approximately 400 litres of milk and weighs around 35 kg, which gives you an idea how popular the product remains.
Visitors of the promotional stands will also consume around 20kg of fondue over the duration of the championships.
Le Gruyère AOP hopes that these European Athletics Championships will offer splendid performances from all athletes taking part, especially Swiss ones!
