Hosts France have announced their team for the European 10,000m Cup which takes place in Pacé on 24 May.
The standout name on their team is Valentin Gondouin who won a bronze medal in the half marathon and helped France to team gold at the inaugural European Running Championships in Brussels-Leuven on Saturday.
Gondouin has been in excellent form on the roads this year, setting lifetime bests at both the 10 kilometres (27:23) and the half marathon (60:17) which suggests his 10,000m lifetime best of 27:41.37 is due for revision this summer.
The French team also includes Felix Bour - the fastest of the quintet with a lifetime best of 27:27.11 - and Simon Bedard who has ownership of a 27:41.37 and finished ninth in the 10,000m at the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships.
The women’s team includes Alessia Zarbo and Melody Julien who competed for France on home soil at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the 10,000m and marathon respectively.
At the last standalone edition of the European 10,000m Cup which was also held in Pacé in 2023, Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa won the men’s race while Germany’s Alina Reh won the women’s race.
The 2024 European 10,000m Cup was held in conjunction with the 2024 European Athletics Championships with the team titles going to France in the men’s race and Italy in the women’s race.
