European indoor 400m silver medallist Henriette Jæger leads the hosting Norway team at the Bergen 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships which will take place on 17-20 July.
Jæger, who also won bronze at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing this year, is entered for the women’s 200m, 400m and 4x400m relay.
Distance and decathlon hopes
She will be joined in the team by Andreas Fjeld Halvorsen, who won 3000m gold at last year’s World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima. The 19-year-old also won 1500m silver and 3000m silver at the Jerusalem 2022 European Athletics U18 Championships.
In the women’s distance races, Norway will also be hopeful Ingeborg Østgård can mount a medal challenge. She was seventh in the women’s 1500m at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia and won gold at the same distance at the Tallinn 2021 European Athletics U20 Championships.
The decathlon is an event in which Norway is building a dynasty of dominance led by Olympic champion Markus Rooth and Sander Skotheim, who had a brilliant indoor season, winning heptathlon gold at both the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships and the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships.
In Bergen, the have two more strong contenders in the shape of Abraham Sandvin Vogelsang and Jonathan Hertwig-Ødegaard, who both placed fourth respectively in the last two editions of the World Athletics U20 Championships. Vogelsang just missed the podium in Cali 2022 and Hertwig-Ødegaard had a similar result in Lima 2024.
