Mykhaylo Kokhan threw a big season’s best of 81.26m at the Kip Keino Classic, a World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, to move to second in the world rankings.
He took second in the competition behind world and Olympic champion, Ethan Katzberg of Canada.
The Olympic and European bronze medallist had two throws over 80m, and another two over his previous season’s best.
Volodymyr Myslyvcuk took third with 77.71m as the Czech athlete was bumped down to fourth in the world rankings, and third Europe.
In the women’s event, European bronze medallist Rose Lago threw a PB of 75.19m while Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir threw 73.88m also for a PB.
Szabados extends national record

While at the VEDAC Throwing Academy Season Opening, Hungary’s Armin Szabados broke the 80m barrier for the first time with the senior weight with a throw of 80.95m.
His throw took the win, extended his PB and U23 national record by nearly three metres, while he also became just the 10th Hungarian to break the 80m barrier.
It moves the 20-year-old up to third on the current world rankings, but also crucially puts him ahead of his countryman, Bence Halasz, an Olympic, world, and European medallist.
Gabor Czeller took second in Hungary with a PB of 74.48m, setting a new best for the first time since 2023.
