Latvia's 2000 Olympic Games 50km race walk silver medallist Aigars Fadejevs has sadly passed away aged 48, it has been confirmed by the Latvian Athletic Association.

Fadejevs was second in the men’s 50km in Sydney behind Poland's Robert Korzeniowski. The three-time Olympian finished sixth in the 20km race walk in Atlanta 1996 and placed 14th in the 20km at Sydney 2000 as well as winning 50km silver. Finally, he was ninth over 20km and 11th in the 50km at Athens 2024.

He also won the silver medal in the 20km race walk at the Budapest 1998 European Athletics Championships and represented Latvia at three World Athletics Championships.

Beyond his competitive career he worked as a physiotherapist, including treating former NBA star Kobe Bryant.
