Long jump superstars Miltiadis Tentoglou and Malaika Mihambo are preparing to open their respective outdoor seasons in the coming days.
Tentoglou, the Olympic, world and European champion is set to grace the runway for the first time at the KO Cyprus International Athletics Meeting in Limassol on Friday 23 May.
The World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze event also features his Greek international team-mate Emmanouil Karalis.
The pole vaulter was the joint gold medallist at the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships and silver medallist at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, adding to his breakthrough European silver and Olympic bronze gleaned last summer.
Tentoglou’s indoor season was affected by illness, forcing him to miss Apeldoorn 2025 and he recovered to finish fifth at the World Indoor Championships. But he will he hopeful of a healthier summer to regain his place at the pinnacle of global long jumping starting in Limassol.
Mihambo opener to be live streamed
Germany’s Mihambo salvaged a bronze in Apeldoorn 2025 after a curtailed indoor season and will be seeking a strong summer opener at the Golden Oval in Dresden, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting that will be live steamed on European Athletics channels on 1 June.
The Tokyo Olympic gold medallist and Paris Olympic silver medallist will be targeting a hat-trick of World Athletics Championships long jump titles in Tokyo in September to go with her previous victories in Doha 2019 and Oregon 2022.
Also competing in front of their home fans at the Pfingstsportfest Rehlingen are Germany's Olympic women’s shot put champion Yemisi Ogunleye and European U20 women’s 400m record holder Johanna Martin.
