  • Veteran Robert-Michon leads a strong French team packed with young talent for Nicosia 2026

Multiple Olympic, European and world medallist Melina Robert-Michon headlines the French team heading to the Nicosia 2026 European Throwing Cup 14-15 March.

She first won the event in 2014, before adding a title in 2016 and 2017, but will be returning to Cyprus to try add one more gold to her collection.

In her tow is a heap of talented French throwers, including Olympic finalist Yann Chaussinand, Rose Loga, Stephen Mailagi, Florella Freyche, Lenny Brisseault and Princess Hyman.

Chaussinand, who placed fifth at the Rome 2024 European Athletics Championships, opened his season with 76.85m and will be looking to find himself back over the other side of the 80m line.

While Loga, at 21-years-old, took bronze in the women’s hammer at Rome 2024, and has since extended her best over 73m and has already thrown a PB of 73.81m this year.

She also took two silvers the year before at the Tallin 2021 European Athletics U20 Championships and the World Athletics U20 championships the same year.

Freyche, hasn’t yet found the same success in the age group competitions having not measured a distance at the Bergen 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships as a 20-year-old, but appears to be an exciting upcoming talent.

Hyman is another rising French thrower, with early success at the 2022 European Athletics U18 Championships where she took silver in the discus.

Since then she has thrown the discus 56.50m, with a seasons best of 53.96m already to take to Cyprus as she contests in the U23 competition.

However, in the men’s shot put Mailagi will compete at the Throwing Cup for the third time, as he looks to break the 20m mark for the first time.

On the runway Brisseault, the Tallin 2021 men’s javelin bronze medallist, looks to break 75.00m again after opening his season with 73.46m in February.

They will also be joined by Jordan Guehaseim, Lolassonn Djouhan, Thomas Blaecke, Marwan Nougaret, Samuel Conjungo, Benjamin Zenatti, Jade Maraval, Naomi Wuta, Leila Danet and Aurore Manufekai.
