World 1500m champion Isaac Nader and double European indoor medallist Salome Afonso took convincing victories at the 10K Sao Silvestre de Lisboa on Saturday (27) evening.
Nader won the men’s 10km in 28:33 ahead of fellow Portuguese international Duarte Gomes in 28:44 while Afonso won the women’s 10km in 32:55 by a clear margin ahead of Solange Jesus in 33:37.
Both Nader and Afonso were part of Portugal’s silver medal-winning team in the mixed relay at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Lagoa on 14 December with Nader running a 4:16 anchor leg - the fastest split by four seconds - to move Portugal from fifth to second.
They are both targeting the 2026 indoor season which will culminate with the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze (Torun) from 20-22 March.
