The world all-time pole vault list was rewritten at the Greek Championships after European indoor champion Emmanouil Karalis went clear at 6.08m on Saturday (2) evening.
Six days after attacking 6.11m in the very same arena at the Balkan Championships, Karalis cleared 5.92m on his third attempt before setting his sights on 6.08m, a mark which has only been bettered by three vaulters in history - all Olympic champions and world record-holders - prior to tonight.
And after missing the height on his first attempt, Karalis soared over 6.08m on his second attempt to smash his lifetime best and Greek record, celebrating wildly in front of his home fans in Volos.
Karalis climbs up to fourth on the world all-time list behind former world record-holders Sergey Bubka (6.15m) and Renaud Lavillenie (6.16m) and current world record-holder Armand Duplantis (6.28m).
