The first of the French athletics federation's Pro Athle Tour meetings in Montreuil-sous-Bois, the second of this summer's European Athletics Outdoor Permit Meetings, was hampered by cold and rainy weather but that didn't stop Poland's European Athletics U23 Championships hammer gold medallist Pawel Fajdek throwing 81.39m on Tuesday night.

It was not only a personal best by just over a metre but moved him up to third place in the 2012 world and European rankings.

Hungary's 2011 World Championships silver medallist Krisztian Pars suffered his first loss in his five meetings this year when he finished second with 80.22m.

Another continental under 23 champion from Ostrava last summer, Great Britain's 400m hurdler Jack Green, also showed impressive form when winning over the barriers in a season's best of 49.22.

In the women's event, there was another British win as Eilish Child came home in 55.25 to finish ahead of Ukraine's Hanna Titimets, who was second in 55.46, while Russia's Kseniya Zadorina won the women's 400m without the obstacles in 51.39.

There were three good wins for European athletes in the women's field events.

Germany's Kristina Gadschiew cleared 4.50m in the pole vault, Lithuania's Zinaida Sendriute was the best in the discus with 62.61m while Ukraine's Hanna Knyazeva went out to an outdoor personal best of 14.23m for a win in the triple jump.

Algeria's Zahra Bouras won the women's 800m 1:58.78 but there was a good second place for Belarus' Maryna Arzamasava in 1:59.63.

American hurdler Jeff Porter won the 110m hurdles in 13.35 and just edged out Britain's 2009 European junior champion Lawrence Clarke, who was second in 13.36.

However, the 22 year-old Briton might have broken his three-day-old personal best of 13.33, set in Geneva on Saturday, but for the inclement weather and running into a 1.0 metres-per-second breeze.
