Nineteen gold medallists from the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships are preparing for another medal tilt at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China on 21-23 March.
The list includes Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who will be seeking to add the only major track title that has so far eluded him.
The twice Olympic gold medallist completed his third successive European indoor 1500m/3000m double at Apeldoorn 2025 but has yet to win a world indoor crown.
Although he did win 1500m silver at the 2022 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade behind Ethiopia’s Samuel Tefera. Showing characteristic ambition, Ingebrigtsen will tackle the 1500m and 3000m in Nanjing.
In form Schilder aiming for more indoor glory
Also looking to extend what has been a memorable indoor season is the Netherlands’ Jessica Schilder.
The twice European champion outdoors had a welcome breakthrough in front of her home fans in Apeldoorn, winning her first major international indoor title. Her winning throw of 20.69m was also a world lead.
Women’s high jump world record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh will be looking for gold to take current ownership of every available international track and field title open to her, having won silver at this event in Glasgow 2024.
Apeldoorn’s European record breakers Mujinga Kambundji (women’s 60m hurdles) and Sander Skotheim (men’s heptathlon) will be seeking another gold medal to crown a brilliant indoor campaign. Both will start in Nanjing as world leaders.
The other Apeldoorn 2025 gold medallists competing in Nanjing are Jeremiah Azu (men’s 60m), Attila Molnar (men’s 400m), Jakub Szymanski (men’s 60m hurdles), Emmanouil Karalis (men’s pole vault - shared), Menno Vloon (men’s pole vault – shared) Andy Diaz Hernandez (men’s triple jump), Andrei Toader (men’s shot put), Zaynab Dosso (women’s 60m), Anna Wielgosz (women’s 800m), Agathe Guillemot (women’s 1500m), Sarah Healy (women’s 3000m), Angelica Moser (women’s pole vault), Ana Peleteiro-Compaoré (women’s triple jump) and Saga Vanninen (women’s pentathlon).
Mondo aiming for title hat trick
Four of the European winners from the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow will also be in action in Nanjing. Olympic champion and world record holder Armand Duplantis will be going for his third successive title in the men’s pole vault.
Greece’s Olympic champion Miltiádis Tentóglou is also going for a world indoor hat trick after missing Apeldoorn through illness. British pole vaulter Molly Caudery won the biggest title of her career when winning gold in Glasgow 2024. It has been a stop-start indoor season this time, but she will be hopefully of finishing with a flourish in Nanjing.
Simon Ehammer of Switzerland won the men’s heptathlon in Glasgow 2024, but after winning silver in Apeldoorn, will focus on the men’s long jump in Nanjing.
