Two-time Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou will open his season in Paiania, Greece, on Saturday (24) before competing internationally for the first time in 2026 at the Czech Indoor Gala in Ostrava, Czechia, on 3 February.
This will be the first time in eight years that Tentoglou has opened his season at home in Greece, and comes after a surprise result at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships where he placed 11th.
Tentoglou has been a dominant jumper the last few years, winning two Olympic golds, a world gold and silver, and two world indoor golds.
He has also held the European title since the Berlin 2018 European Athletics Championships alongside the European indoor title from 2019 to 2023.
However, his 2025 season didn’t live up to expectations, with no major international medals added to his collection despite the opportunity.
Despite entering the Nanjing 2025 World Indoor Championships as the two-time reigning world indoor champion, Tentoglou’s best jump of 8.14m placed him an unfamiliar fifth as he dealt with the after-effects of flu which forced him to withdraw from the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships.
But his outdoor season started to pick up and he jumped an impressive world lead 8.46m at the Madrid 2025 European Team Championships 1st Division for first place.
In Tokyo 2025, he eased through the qualifications with just one jump needed to qualify for the final, but when the time came Tentoglou was only able to jump 7.83 for 11th.
Now this season, the chance has come for Tentoglou to reclaim his indoor title, extend his European reign, and fight for gold at the Budapest 2026 Ultimate World Championships.
