The Forum is a key platform for discussion on sport at EU level and an opportunity for the Commission to inform the sport movement about its current activities and future initiatives and to listen to their views.
President Wirz was in attendance alongside leading figures from the International Olympic Committee, European Olympic Committees, European sports federations and organisations of leagues, clubs and athletes.
Participants discussed topics such as the Sport Chapter of Erasmus+, the EU Work Plan for Sport 2011-14 and future priorities.
The Sport Forum also showcased EU-funded projects implemented during the past two years, which focus on the prevention and fight against violence and intolerance in sport and on the promotion of innovative approaches to strengthen the organisation of sport in Europe.
President Wirz took the opportunity to also meet with the Athletic Federation of Lithuania to discuss the continued development of the sport in the country.
He was welcomed by Athletic Federation of Lithuania President Eimantas Skrabulis and General Secretary Nijole Medvedeva.
Lithuania is an active Member Federation having hosted the European Athletics Team Championships 2nd League in Kaunas this year, with that city also hosting the 2009 European Athletics U23 Championships.
