A record 46 entries were received by the 31 May deadline for the 2012 European Athletics Innovation Awards. 
Prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Promotion, Technology, Coaching, Sustainability and Open. There is a CHF 20,000 prize fund of which CHF 10,000 will go to the overall winner selected from the category winners. 
The expert panel judging the awards will be led by European Athletics Council Member Dr Sylvia Balag (NED). The other members will be Dr Scott Drawer (GBR), Dr. Harald Müller (GER), Dr Claude Stricker (SUI), Dr Wolfgang Ritzdorf (GER) and Dr Jikta Vinduskova (CZE). 
Category winners will be announced in early September and the overall winner will receive his/her prize at this year's European Athletics Awards Night in Malta on 13 October.
