Rieti is getting ready to host the European Athletics U18 Championships, which will take place at the Guidobaldi Stadium from Thursday to Sunday, with one of the city's landmarks illuminated in the colours of the Italian flag.
Ponte Giovanni XXIII, on Viale Matteucci and recently renovated, has been lit up in green, white and red as a tribute to Italy's U18 team and to all the athletes taking part in the championships.
The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Rieti, celebrates the arrival of the continental event, which will bring some of Europe's brightest young athletics talents from 48 countries to the city. It is a gesture of welcome and support not only for the Italian team but for the entire athletics community that will bring Rieti to life throughout the four days of competition.
Recently refurbished, the bridge has become one of the city's most striking landmarks as Rieti prepares to host this major international event, with just four days to go until the championships get underway.
