  • Schilder and Fabbri win big clashes in Czechia

World leaders Jessica Schilder and Leonardo Fabbri re-asserted their global status with impressive shot put victories at the Hvězdy v Nehvizdech on Wednesday (25).

In her intriguing match-up with twice world indoor champion Sarah Mitton, world and European champion Schilder settled matters early in Czechia.

The Dutch athlete landed a superb opening round throw of 20.43m, just 6cm shy of her world lead and it was distance that went unthreatened with no other athlete able to breach 20 metres.

Schilder underscored her dominance with a fifth-round throw of 20.09m in an impressive display. Mitton was second with a best of 19.89m, also in the fifth round. Sweden’s Fanny Roos was third in a season’s best 19.45m.

Fabbri wins with fifth round throw

In the men’s competition, it took Fabbri until the fifth round to get a grip on the competition. But he uncorked a throw of 21.80m to take him out of reach of a deep international field, including twice world champion Joe Kovacs of USA.

African champion Chukwuebuka Enekwechi of Nigeria was next best, with a final round of 21.20m. Jamaica’s Rajindra Campbell was third with 21.15m. Kovacs was back in fifth with 20.83m.

Czechia’s Justyna Brýdlova improved her personal best to win the women’s high jump with 1.87m. The men’s competition was won by Türkiye’s Alperen Acet with a season’s best 2.23m.
