World and European indoor shot put champion Jessica Schilder has been was awarded the Dutch Athlete of the Year award at the 2025 Athletics Gala in Arnhem on Wednesday (12).
In a phenomenal year, Schilder won gold in front of her home fans at the Apeldoorn 2025 European Indoor Athletics Championships, took silver at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, before her career highlight win at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
It earned her the national accolade ahead of world 400m hurdles champion Femke Bol.
Van Daalen and Vetter recognised
The Dafne Schippers Talent Award went to Jarno van Daalen, who won gold in the shot and discus at the Tampere 2025 European Athletics U20 Championships.
There was also a special Membership of Merit award to 2016 European heptathlon champion and three-times world medallist Anouk Vetter, who recently announced her retirement from the sport.
