The northern Greek city of Serres has been awarded the 2027 edition of the European Race Walking Team Championships at the European Athletics Executive Board meeting in Birmingham on Thursday (23).
This will be the first time in event history that the European Race Walking Team Championships, an event which dates back to 1996, will be held on Greek soil.
Recent highlights at the European Race Walking Team Championships have included Italy's Massimo Stano winning the 35km race walk in 2025 in a world record of 2:20:43 and Greece's Antigoni Ntrismpioti taking back-to-back titles in the 35km and 20km race walk in 2021 and 2023 respectively.
"We are delighted to award the 2027 European Race Walking Team Championships to Serres. This marks a significant milestone as it will be the first time that Greece hosts this prestigious event.
"Greece has a rich and long-standing tradition in race walking events and we are confident Serres will deliver a truly outstanding championship that will showcase the very best of European race walking," said European Athletics President Dobromir Karamarinov.
The last three editions of the European Race Walking Team Championships have been held in Podebrady, Czechia.
