The Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) recognised three individuals with European Athletics Awards as part of the end of year Spanish athletics gala evening held in the Olympic Committee Auditorium in Madrid on 16 January.

Carlota Castrejana, the European indoor triple jump champion from Birmingham 2007, was given the 2015 European Athletics Women’s Leadership Award for her commitment to the sport.

Castrejana practises sports law and is part of the working group 'Sport, Health and Values' of the Spanish Agency for Health Protection.

José Antonio Quintana and Manoli Alonso were nominated by the federation to receive Coaching Awards for their successes in 2015.

European Athletics Council member and RFEA Director General, José Luis de Carlos, presented all the winners their awards.

On the same evening, world 20km race walking champion, Miguel Angel Lopez, and high jumper Ruth Beitia, were crowned Spanish Athletes of the Year.

European Athletics this year awarded 43 coaches from 26 European countries while 19 standout women were given the Women’s Leadership Award.
