Slovakia's women from Spartak Dubnica made home advantage pay as they celebrated promotion from the Senior Group B of the European Champion Clubs Cup.

They achieved their success with a series of fine finishes, even though they only scored maximum points in two events, with second placed Sparta AM from Copenhagen now joining them in Group A.

In the men’s competition, Dukla Praha, of the Czech Republic, triumphed ahead of Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Staged in Dubnica nad Vahom, the Cup saw the local women’s team win the 400m hurdles and the 3000m steeplechase but they still had enough for overall victory by 13 points, with Copenhagen also securing promotion despite finishing level on 88 points with LC Zurich.

But as the Danish side won five of the events compared to Zurich’s three, second place was theirs.
Luca Slaniclova triumphed for Dubnica in the 400m hurdles in 58.78 from Biana Baak, of Phanos Amsterdam, in 59.21 with Robine Shuermann, of LC Zurich, third in 60.48.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Michaela Drabkova won in 10:59.91 ahead of Caroline Tauson, of Sparta AM in 11:23.67 with Rotem Lahav, of Maccabi Reshon Lazion, third in 11:28.69.

But it was performances such as Lenka Krsakova’s 24.27 to finish second in the 200m behind Maccabi’s Olga Lenskiy in 23.94 that totted up the important points for Dubnica.

Sparta had a great day with their five wins which proved the difference. They triumphed in the 5000m with Sara Sig Moller (16:53.48), high jump with Sandra Boll (1.74m), pole vault with Caroline Bonde Holm (4.00m), discus with Katrine Bebe (46.01m) and hammer with Meiken Greve (58.52).

Zurich’s only individual win was in the 3000m with Raja Urner in 11:15.67 before the Swiss side won the 4 x 100m relay in 46.47 and the 4 x 400m relay in 3:47.72.

All the action took place in a packed one-day programme with the Czech Republic’s Dukla Praha side winning the men’s event by 10 points from Maccabi.

A change of team members from the pre-competition start list meant the clash between leading shot putters Asmir Kolasinac, of Partizan Beograd, and Ladislav Prasil, of Praha, did not materialise because they were both missing.

That did not deter from some fine individual displays with the Czech Republic's Lukas Melich, who finished sixth in the Olympic final in London, winning the hammer with an impressive 76.30m while in the high jump, his teammate Jaroslav Baba, the bronze medallist from the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Göteborg in March, won with 2.12m.

Praha also won the 800m with Miroslav Brurian (1:52.12), the 1500m with Jan Kubista 1500m (3:58.08), the 3000m with Jan Sykora (8:41.98), the long jump with Stepan Wagner (7.21m), the pole vault with Michal Balner (5.00m) before the Czech side ended with victory in the 4 x 400m relay in 3:13.52.
Emir Bekric, of Partizan Beograd, ran a fine 50.75 to win the 400m hurdles while Romania’s Sergiu Ursu, competing for Maccabi, took the discus with 61.38m.
