The 18th Odlozil Memorial meeting in Prague, a European Athletics Outdoor Premium Meeting, on 13 June has announced that some of Europe’s top stars will be competing in the Czech capital.
An excellent men’s high jump is being put together and already confirmed is Russia’s 2006 European Athletics Championships gold medallist and 2008 Olympic Games champion Andrey Silnov.
Silnov will face the rejuvenated local star Jaroslav Baba, who won a bronze medal as a teenager at the 2004 Olympic Games and recently bounced back into the limelight to also take the bronze medal at the 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships in March.
Both men could challenge the long-standing meeting record of 2.29m, held jointly by the Czech brothers Jan and Tomas Janku since 1997.
Almost all the other current big Czech athletics names will be present in Prague with women’s javelin world record holder and former world champion Barbora Å potáková, the 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships gold medallists Petr Svoboda and Denisa Rosolová as well as the 400m hurdler Zuzana Hejnova all confirmed.
Odlozil Memorial meeting will provide the perfect preparation for many members of the Czech team who will contest the SPAR European Team Championships in Stockholm the following weekend on 18-19 June.
There will also be a very good hammer competition in Prague with Slovakia’s 2010 European champion Libor Charfreitag set to face Germany’s Markus Esser as well as Poland’s evergreen Szymon Ziolkowski, who won the 2000 Olympic title and has maintained a phenomenal consistency over the last decade that includes getting the 2009 World Championships silver medal.
The Czech meeting is the third of nine 2011 European Athletics Outdoor Premium Meetings that will be held in the coming months.
