The 2011 European Athletics Rising Star and world champion shot putter David Storl of Germany and his coach Sven Lang will be among the top speakers offering their knowledge and experience at the European Shot Put and Javelin Throw Symposium, which will take place at the Tanhuvaara Sports Institute in Savonlinna, Finland, on the 12 and 13 of November.
The symposium, the fourth stop in the 2011 European Athletics Coaching Summit Series, will also feature another top shot putter, the 2000 Olympic champion Arsi Harju (FIN). Having recently made a comeback to the ring, Harju has taken up coaching and offers a double perspective after working with Finland's number one woman shot putter Suvi Helin.
Multiple championship medallist Christina Obergföll (GER) will lead the speakers covering the javelin.
Also on the programme is one of the world’s top physiotherapists Jarmo Ahonen (FIN).
Finnish and English will be the working languages for the symposium, which will include both lectures and practical sessions. Simultaneous translation will be provided by European Championship medallist Mikaela Ingberg and the Finnish Broadcasting Corporation’s expert commentator on athletics Mika Lehtimí¤ki.

European Athletics’ support for the symposium includes the offer of Coaching Summit Series scholarships to its Member Federations to help them cover the costs of travel and accommodation for coaches attending.
