If Amela Terzic carries on with the kind of success she has been showing in the past few weeks, the SPAR European Cross County Championships in December could be an occasion to remember for her - again.
Serbian Terzic has a superb record at the event as it is, having won medals in each of the last four years.
Her success is topped by her gold from the junior event in 2012 in Budapest which goes alongside her junior silver and bronzes from 2010 and 2011 respectively and her silver in the under-23 race in Belgrade last year.
Still only 21, she looks set to make another big impression after a series of fine runs at home.
Terzic last week completed her fourth and final victory in the RTS Serbian Cross Country series with a 3km win in Krusevac, adding to victories in Zajecar, Pozarevac and Sabac.
Then last Sunday she won over 5km in 16:23 at the 63rd Belgrade Liberation road race.
That triumph once more demonstrated her ability to tackle any surface in a career where she has consistently won medals since 2009.
Samokov in Bulgaria is the venue for this year’s SPAR European Cross Country Championships and it was at home last December where Terzic brought delight as she finished second behind Sifan Hassan, of the Netherlands, in the under-23 race.
Terzic was just six seconds behind the winner and revealed how the fans gave her great encouragement.
She said: “I could hear the cheers coming from the crowd and I thank them for coming to give me support. I would not have been able to finish second without them.”
Terzic will be young enough to defend her 1500m title at the European Athletics Under-23 Championships in Tallinn in July.
