One of the biggest challenges of the European Championships is not taking place on the track. It is the intense summer heat, with temperatures expected to reach peaks of 38°C and forecasts predicting sunshine and extreme conditions through Sunday, the final and decisive day of competition.
To cope with what has so far been the hottest week of the summer, the Rieti 2026 Organising Committee has already introduced two key measures: morning sessions have been brought forward to avoid the hottest hours of the day, and more than 50,000 bottles of water have been made available, alongside water dispensers and refillable bottles.
The effort goes even further. Across the Guidobaldi Stadium facilities used by athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers, 159 fans have been installed. In addition, 69 parasols have been set up around the competition area, warm-up zones and other key locations, with more on the way. These shaded areas provide welcome relief for everyone working and competing under the blazing sun.
The heat has not slowed ticket sales. The Velino Grandstand is sold out, while tickets for the Terminillo Grandstand are still available for just €5. Meanwhile, the Fan Village continues to welcome visitors with local food stands, happy hour from 7:00 p.m., and live music every evening from 10:00 p.m. through Sunday.
