The Netherland's Charundy Martina clocked a European-leading 20.40 for the
200m at the 8th edition of the Meeting Region Guadeloupe in Baie Mahault.

Dutch sprinter Churandy Martina, fourth in the 2008 Olympic Games 100m, continued his good early season form and set a European-leading 200m mark of 20.40 when he won at the 8th edition of the Meeting Region Guadeloupe in Baie Mahault, on the French overseas department of Guadeloupe, on Tuesday.

On this side of the Atlantic, Montenegro's 2011 European Athletics Junior Championships silver medallist Danijel Furtula, who is still only 19, improved his national senior record by nine centimetres to 60.33m in Bar on Tuesday.

His previous record of 60.24m also came at the same venue in March when he won the under 22 competition at the European Cup Winter Throwing.

Belgium's 2005 European Athletics Junior Championships 3000m bronze medallist Barbara Maveau secured her place at the 2012 European Athletics Championships in her debut outing over 5000m when she ran 15:27.97 in Herentals on Tuesday.

The 2012 European Athletics Championships will be held in Helsinki, Finland, from 27 June to 1 July.
