World and Olympic finalist Nicola Tuthill leads Ireland’s selection for the Nicosia 2026 European Throwing Cup on 14-15 March.
Tuthill has a tumultuous relationship with the European Throwing Cup. In Leiria in 2022, she fractured and dislocated an elbow during the women’s U23 hammer competition.
But she returned a year later to become the first Irish athlete ever to win a medal at the European Throwing Cup, winning silver at Leiria 2023. A result she repeated a year later.
Then last year in Nicosia, she became the first ever Irish gold medallist at the event, as she won the women’s U23 hammer throw at her fourth attempt.
She went on to win silver at the Bergen 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships. She will be competing as a senior for the first time at the European Throwing Cup in Nicosia.
Anna Gavigan, who won silver in the women’s U23 discus throw last year is also part of the five strong Irish team set for Nicosia 2026.
